Quigley serves up straight-sets victory

Former UK All-American Eric Quigley advanced to the second round of the Fifth Third Bank Championships on Wednesday afternoon with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Riccardo Ghedin.

"I knew what I had to do. My game is play fast and hit the ball hard," Quigley said. "I think I executed well."

Quigley won 79 percent first-serve points, including seven aces.

"I served well in my doubles match a couple days ago, and took the confidence I gained and used it," Quigley said. "I focused on my ball toss and everything just clicked after that."

A partisan crowd watched Quigley win professionally for the second time. He won a qualifying match three weeks ago in Winnetka, Ill.

"The fans here are great and I just hope they can come out again when I play next." Quigley said.

Quigley will play in the second round Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against Michael McClune.
