Former Kentucky standout Anthony Davis looks to make his debut as an Olympian when Team USA takes on France and San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker in a men's basketball opener in London. (9:30 a.m., NBC Sports Network)

The Brickyard 400 is not what it used to be in terms of drawing fans to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but it's still one of the primary attractions on the NASCAR schedule. Jeff Gordon has won the race four times and Jimmie Johnson three, and both should be in the hunt again. (1 p.m., ESPN)

Friday

The University of Kentucky opens football practice. The Cats have a lot to sort out and only a little more time to work with as they get ready to open the season Sept. 2 at Louisville. UK holds its annual Football Fan Day on Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.

Saturday

Lexington native Tyson Gay begins his quest for gold in the Olympic 100 meters. Qualifying heats begin at 5 a.m. EDT. Your best bet to watch it live will be on NBCOlympics.com. The semifinals and finals come the following day.

Saturday

Pittsburgh Steelers great Dermontti Dawson, who played at Bryan Station High School and the University of Kentucky, joins a Class of 2012 that also includes Curtis Martin, Cortez Kennedy, Chris Doleman, Willie Roaf and Jack Butler for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame at Canton, Ohio. (7 p.m., ESPN).
