Asheville beats Legends 9-8 in 10 innings

Harold Riggins' 10th-inning homer gave the Asheville (N.C.) Tourists a 9-8 win over the visiting Lexington Legends on Monday night.

The Legends sent the game to extra innings by scoring two runs in the ninth.

The Tourists also had to come from behind, as the Legends jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning.

Asheville responded with a run in the first and four in the second.

The Tourists took a 6-5 lead in the fifth.

Each team scored a run in the sixth to leave the score at 7-6 Asheville, and the Tourists added another in the eighth.

With one out in the ninth, Delino DeShields Jr. singled and stole second, his league-leading 77th steal of the year. Ruben Sosa struck out, but Zach Johnson singled to left field, scoring DeShields. Matt Duffy was hit by a pitch, moving Johnson to second. The Legends were down to their last strike when Brandon Meredith singled to left, scoring Johnson with the tying run.

Nelson Gonzalez (4-2), who struck out the side in the top of the 10th, got the win. Murilo Gouvea (2-6), who entered the game in the ninth, took the loss.

Johnson's three runs batted in increased his league-leading total to 89.
