Kentucky's players didn't exactly "LOL" when they learned of their head coach's new ban on Twitter at training camp.

Until Aug. 15, UK players will be restricted from using the social media site. Coach Joker Phillips told his freshmen about the ban on Thursday and planned to inform the upperclassmen on Friday.

"We've got better things to do," Phillips told the media of his ban at the school's annual Media Day. "We've got a lot of work to do. We don't have time."

He mapped out the players' schedules during camp, which includes getting up at 7 a.m. and lights out at 11 p.m.

"There is no time to relax, no time to Twitter," Phillips continued.

The little bit of free time the players have should be spent in other ways, like getting to know teammates better.

Or even getting to know the training staff better, he said.

"The time that we spend Twittering, that's time they could be in the cold, ice tub, that's time they could be getting treatment from our training staff," he said.

The players seemed to understand, even several of the freshmen, who admitted to spending a great deal of time on Twitter.

On Thursday night, kicker Landon Foster tweeted that the hardest thing about camp will be the lack of Twitter.

He laughed on Friday when asked if he could live without it for two whole weeks.

"That was just a joke," said Foster, who had 10,324 tweets at shutdown. "I can live without it. It's going to be tough, but I can do it."

Sophomore quarterback Maxwell Smith said he was going to miss Instagram the most and he seemed quite concerned about the welfare of running back Josh Clemons.

"I was addicted to it for awhile," Smith said of Twitter. "My roommate's Josh Clemons and he was like, 'We can't tweet? No way!'"

Nuts about Nutter?

Coaches can't keep players out of the film room this season.

In fact, the football staff has changed the current system at Nutter Field House so that players can go in whenever they wish and watch film together.

"There are so many of our players wanting to get to watch film on Saturdays and Sundays," Phillips said. "We're in the process of getting a system where our players can get in at any time. We've never had that. We've never had that where guys just can't wait to get in the building on the weekends, on their off days. I'm excited about that."

New addition

It's not often that a three-star prospect just shows up on Kentucky's campus and walks on the football team, but that appears to be the case with Damon Sprouse, a 6-foot-5, 255-pound offensive lineman from Atlanta.

Sprouse, a three-star lineman according to both Scout and Rivals, was ranked as the No. 78 offensive guard in the country by one service. He was listed as having offers from Louisville and Southern Miss.

He arrived on campus Thursday as a walk-on, UK spokesman Tony Neely said on Friday afternoon.

Fan Day Saturday

UK fans' first look at the new team will come on Saturday at Fan Day at Commonwealth Stadium. The day will include an open practice, which is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. as well as an autograph session and fireworks to end the free event.

Gates open at 5 p.m. UK notes only gates 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11 will be open.
