State prison inmate gets seven more years in connection with Northpoint riot

Published: August 7, 2012

A state prison inmate was sentenced Tuesday to an additional seven years in connection with the August 2009 riot at Northpoint Training Center in Boyle County.

Aaron Lee Fisk, 25, received five years on a reduced charge of third-degree arson and two years on a charge of rioting. The sentences imposed by Boyle Circuit Court Judge Darren Peckler are to be served consecutively for a total of seven years, and they will be served after his current sentence on charges of burglary and assault.

Six buildings at Northpoint were destroyed during the riot and fire. Eight inmates and eight guards were injured. The prison has since been rebuilt at a cost of more than $18 million and is accepting inmates.

Fisk, who is serving time at Kentucky State Penitentiary at Eddyville, is the second of five former Northpoint inmates to be found guilty on arson and rioting charges. Newell Stacy, 41, was sentenced to 20 years in January, and three others are awaiting trial.
