Jessamine County: Plein air event invites artists, new dean at Asbury, library celebration

The Creative Arts League of Jessamine County, a newly formed arts organization, is looking for artists to join in a plein air painting session 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 15. "The Great Paint Out" will be held on the courthouse lawn in Nicholasville. There will be sidewalk chalk drawing and watercolor activities for children. Attendees are invited to bring a brush, some paper and paint. The group's mission is to give visual artists an opportunity to exchange ideas, participate in group exhibits and benefit from monthly educational programs. New dean for Asbury School of Education

Sherry Powers has been named dean of the School of Education at Asbury University. Powers was previously at Western Kentucky University where she served as director of the School of Teacher Education and as associate dean. Her career in education includes classroom experience in Kentucky public schools and expertise in reading and literacy education at the university level.

Celebrate at Jessamine library on Sunday

The Jessamine County Public Library will host a community celebration from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at 600 South Main Street, Nicholasville. The event will include ballet performances, Lego sculpture, martial arts demonstrations, model trains, animal rescue organizations, inflatables, live music and a cornhole tournament.
