The 1972 U.S. Olympic basketball team, which lost in a controversial gold medal game to the Soviet Union, is holding a 40-year "Courage in Munich" reunion at Georgetown College this weekend.

Former players were introduced at the Lexington Legends game on Thursday night and will participate in free public seminars at Georgetown on Friday to discuss the history and implications of that 1972 game, in which the U.S. refused to accept the silver medal.

The U.S. led 50-49 after Doug Collins made two free throws with three seconds remaining. Citing clock errors, officials allowed the Soviets to inbound the ball three different times, with Alexander Belov finally scoring on the third one to give Russia the 51-50 win.

This weekend will mark the first time that all 12 U.S. players have been together for a reunion since 1972. Former Georgetown All-American Kenny Davis was a captain on the team. Collins will hold a news conference Saturday afternoon before being the guest speaker at a banquet that night at the Marriott Griffin Gate.

Friday's seminars, which start at 9 a.m., are being held at the Thomas and King Leadership Conference Center in Georgetown.
