A man died when he apparently fell or jumped from the Park Plaza building or garage in downtown Lexington on Tuesday afternoon.
His body was found on Water Street, which runs between the Phoenix government building on Vine Street and the Park Plaza Apartments next to the downtown library.
The victim was not immediately identified. His body was taken by the Fayette County Coroner's Office about an hour after he died.
Lexington police Lt. Chris Young said someone flagged down a patrol officer about 3:20 p.m. to say she saw the man falling. The officer found the man and called for an ambulance, but the man was dead, Young said.
Young said it was not clear whether the man fell from the open-air parking garage under the Park Plaza Apartments, or from a gymnasium on the eighth floor. He said police do not suspect foul play.
There was an open window on the eighth floor directly above where the man landed.
Young said police think the victim was a resident of the Park Plaza Apartments.
Young said police had requested surveillance video from the apartment complex and the library, which both use the seven-story parking garage.
"At this point they're very early in the investigation, so they're looking ... to see if there's any indicators of where he may have come from," he said.
