Teen accused in robbery of Fayette student appears in court

Published: September 6, 2012

An 18-year-old Lexington man appeared briefly Thursday before a Fayette County judge on the robbery charge he faces after allegedly encouraging and filming a juvenile's attack on a Tates Creek High School student.

Fayette District Judge Kim Wilkie set a Sept. 19 hearing date for Antoine Young, who pleaded not guilty.

Police accuse Young of encouraging a juvenile who attacked a student walking home from school, allegedly stealing the student's backpack and shoes, according to court records. Young allegedly filmed the incident.

Charges also have been filed against the juvenile accused in the attack, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said Wednesday. Roberts said she didn't have the exact charges, but she said the teen probably would face charges of second-degree assault, robbery or both. Charges also are pending against a second adult, Roberts said.
