Suspect sought in robbery of Lexington Red Roof Inn

September 10, 2012

Police were looking Monday for a man who robbed the Red Roof Inn North on Haggard Court at gunpoint and punched a motel clerk over a wallet.

At 6:13 a.m., officers were called to the Red Roof Inn North at 1980 Haggard Court to investigate a robbery, said spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts.

Roberts said the suspect entered the hotel's front entrance, approached the front desk clerk with a silver handgun and demanded money. The suspect pointed the gun at the clerk as he got money out of the drawer, Roberts said.

After obtaining money from the register, the suspect attempted to take the clerk's wallet, Roberts said. When the clerk refused, the suspect punched the clerk.

There was a brief struggle before the suspect fled out the front door. The suspect was described as a black man, 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a hoodie and a bandanna over his face.

The clerk refused an ambulance.
