A Lexington man told police that he was shot, beaten and robbed early Monday.

At 1:15 a.m., officers responding to a report of gunshots found a man at 2051 Cummins Court who had been shot in the arm, according to spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts.

The victim said five men approached him, hit him in the head and demanded his money, according to police. The victim reported he was shot trying to get away after refusing to turn over money.

The suspects were last seen running down Daniel Court, Roberts said.

Lexington Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Nantz said he thought the man's injuries were not life threatening.
