Jerry Sandusky asks for return of $50K bail to his wife

Published: October 4, 2012

BELLEFONTE — Jerry Sandusky's attorney is asking that the $50,000 cash posted for bail be returned to his wife.

The motion for the release of his bail was made Thursday by Joe Amendola to Senior Judge John Cleland and filed in county court.

Dottie Sandusky posted the bail — $50,000 plus collateral of $200,000 from their College Township home — in December, which allowed her husband to be released from the county jail after his preliminary hearing.

Jerry Sandusky was put on house arrest awaiting his trial for seven months, barred from leaving except for medical reasons or to accompany his attorneys for preparing his defense. Sandusky also had to wear an electronic monitoring device.

After Sandusky was convicted in June, Cleland revoked his bail at the request of the prosecution. Sandusky had been sitting in the county jail since then, awaiting his sentencing.

Sandusky, 68, was convicted of 45 counts.
