An apartment fire early Thursday killed a Letcher County man, Kentucky State Police said.

Dennis Wayne Profitt, 58, of Jenkins, died at the apartment. His body was sent to the state medical examiner's office in Frankfort for an autopsy, state police said in a news release.

The fire was reported at 3:36 a.m. Thursday at the Mountain Breeze apartment complex. Jenkins and Neon fire departments were dispatched.

Profitt's body was found inside the apartment on a couch in the living room. The two-story apartment building was destroyed, and two neighboring buildings were damaged.
