EKU safety alert canceled; police say student's report was false

Published: October 11, 2012

An Eastern Kentucky University safety bulletin was cancelled Thursday after police learned the student made a false report.

EKU police sent out the original bulletin early Thursday after a female student reported an unknown man had stopped her in the hallway of her dormitory, followed her into her room and kissed her without permission.

She said she kicked the man and he went away. The incident occurred about 12:30 a.m. in Telford Hall, a dormitory with co-ed floors.

The university issued a second bulletin Thursday afternoon, saying police determined the woman knew the man, and she had invited him into her room.

"At the request of the victim, the investigation is now closed," the bulletin said.
