Lexington Mayor Jim Gray and Councilman Julian Beard joined skateboarders at Kirklevington Park Monday for the official opening of a new skate park.
The city partnered with Cricket Wireless to replace a deteriorated asphalt pad at the park with obstacles for skate boarders.
The Cricket Wireless Skate Spot includes obstacles such as grind rails, benches and barriers for advanced and beginning skaters.
Cricket Wireless has sponsored several recreational facilities in Lexington. In the past five years, the company has also donated $35,000 to build futsal courts at Cardinal Valley Park and $10,000 to build two baseball dugouts at Coolavin Park.
