Urban League honors KU, State Farm

The Lexington Urban League honored three businesses and a city employee for promoting diversity and community service at its 44th annual fund-raising banquet.

The theme of the banquet was "Embrace Diversity," said P.G. Peeples, executive director of the Lexington Urban League.

The group recognized Kentucky Utilities and State Farm Insurance for philanthropy and efforts to "create or enhance equal-life opportunities for all," Peeples said.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Co., as well as Mark Johnson, health equity team leader for the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, were presented with the new Diversity Award, given to individuals, businesses or groups who enhance diversity and inclusion.

The Urban League of Lexington-Fayette County is dedicated to aiding disadvantaged citizens promoting social and economic equality.
