A Laurel County man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday morning, according to Kentucky State Police.

Lloyd J. Smith, 27, of East Bernstadt, was driving east on KY 490 in a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck when he ran off the road in a curve and hit several trees. The truck came to rest in a field, police said.

Smith was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash, police said. State police were notified of the crash at 9:22 a.m.
