Clark man dies in arson fire; housemate charged

Published: October 22, 2012

A 23-year-old Winchester man was charged with arson Sunday after a Clark County fire that killed his housemate.

Kenneth Payton Jr., 50, died in the fire early Sunday morning at 544 East Broadway Street in Winchester.

Kentucky State Police interviewed witnesses living in the home, and investigators said accelerants might have been used to start the fire, the Associated Press reported.

Aaron Spencer, who lived with Payton, was arrested Sunday and was taken to the Clark County jail.

Payton's girlfriend, Pamela Cantor, 43, was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Payton's body was taken to Frankfort for an autopsy, the AP reported.
