Friends and neighbors of 16-year-old Tates Creek High School student Stuart Shields are holding a fund-raiser block party in his memory Saturday.
The Celebrating the Life of Stuart benefit block party will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Fieldmoor Drive off Rockbridge Road near Hartland Parkway.
Stuart, who took his own life last month, was a well-liked lacrosse player at Tates Creek. The event is meant to honor him and raise awareness of teen suicide, the second-leading cause of death among teens in Kentucky, organizer Kassie Bennett said.
The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and younger and $7 for Tates Creek High School students.
The event will feature live music, food vendors, inflatables, games and live and silent auctions. Proceeds will go to Stop Youth Suicide, a local prevention group, as well as creating a lacrosse scholarship in Stuart's name.
