Brittany Farms' American Jewel wins $500,000 Breeders Crown race

October 27, 2012

American Jewel, bred and owned by Brittany Farms of Versailles, won the $500,000 Breeders Crown race for 3-year-old pacing fillies at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto on Saturday night.

American Jewel finished a length in front of Shelliscape, with Big McDeal in third.

Tim Tetrick drove the filly, who has now won $1,771,773 and has 16 victories, for trainer Jimmy Takter.

American Jewel was the 4-5 favorite, but bade her time through the early fractions set first by stablemate Romantic Moment and then Economy Terror before shaking apart from the pack with about an eighth of a mile to go and pacing to the win. Her winning time was 1:52.1

"There was no pace, my mare needed a good brave trip tonight and she got it," Tetrick said. "I was really tickled with her."
