Reward doubled in search for person who shot Nicholasville police officer

Herald-Leader Staff ReportOctober 31, 2012

The Nicholasville Police Department is now offering a $10,000 reward — double what it offered last week — for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who shot Officer John Rainey on Oct. 19.

The department announced the increase in a news release Wednesday. The $10,000 reward would be in addition to a reward offered by Bluegrass Crime Stoppers.

Rainey was shot in the back panel of his ballistic vest as he searched for someone on Maple Leaf Lane. Rainey spun around and returned fire after he was shot. The shooter then ran off. Rainey was treated for his injury at a Nicholasville urgent-care center and was released.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Nicholasville Police Department at (859) 885-9467.
