Governor Steve Beshear

FRANKFORT — Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear is recovering after undergoing eye surgery Monday night, his office announced Tuesday.

Beshear, 68, had minor outpatient surgery to repair a detached retina. "The surgery was successful and the governor is recovering well," his office said in a news release.

Kerri Richardson, a spokeswoman for Beshear, said the problem developed over the weekend and was not the result of an injury. Beshear, now in his second term, saw a crescent shape in his eye and then went to the doctor, who scheduled the surgery for Monday night, Richardson said.

The governor will limit his travel for the next few days to recuperate, the news release said.
