Don Jacobs closes its used-car lot in north Lexington

The Don Jacobs Organization auto dealership has closed its used-car lot on New Circle Road near Old Paris Pike that the company ran for 34 years.

General manager Scott Brittain said that Don Jacobs decided to consolidate its operations at its property on Nicholasville Road, where it sells new Hondas, BMWs and Volkswagens, and used cars. The complex includes the company's paint and body shops.

"We've had quite a few calls from people wanting to know where they (the north Lexington cars) are," Brittain said. "They can come over to the south side and get the level of service and quality cars."

Brittain said the consolidation will not affect the number of used cars in the 41-year-old dealership's inventory.

"I would expect that our number should be the same," he said. "I wouldn't expect to go backwards."

The north Lexington stretch of New Circle Road is covered with car dealerships, from small buy-here-pay-here lots to Motorvation Motor Cars to the sprawling Paul Miller Ford Mazda, Green's Toyota and Rod Hatfield Chevrolet complexes.

The Don Jacobs lot, opened in 1978, had long been part of a visually interesting block, sitting next door to a small house built in 1954. Now both are awaiting new tenants.
