Former Lexington Mayor Teresa Isaac is considering a possible run for Central Kentucky's 6th Congressional District in two years.

"Yes, I am looking at it," Isaac, who was mayor of Lexington from 2003 to 2006, said Saturday in a telephone interview.

Republican Andy Barr, a Lexington attorney, captured the 19-county district seat last Tuesday in a rematch election from 2010 against Democrat Ben Chandler, who has held it since 2004. Barr will be sworn into office in January.

Isaac, a Democrat, said her consideration of a possible campaign is "very preliminary, but I think it is winnable for a Democrat."

Democrats outnumber Republicans in the district, 292,805 to 166,788.

Isaac, a lawyer, finished third in a seven-candidate race for the 6th District seat in 1998. She also has been the Urban County Council.

Isaac, 57, is now executive director of Lexington's Fair Housing Council and teaches law at Midway College.

She said she has not set any personal deadline to decide whether to enter the 2014 6th District race.

Isaac spent her childhood in Harlan County, the oldest of five children. After her father lost a congressional bid in 1964, the family moved to Lexington.

She graduated from Bryan Station High School, received a bachelor's degree from Transylvania University and graduated from the University of Kentucky's law school in 1979.
