As part of several events during Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Lexington Venture Club will host nationally known entrepreneur, blogger and author Ben Casnocha on Friday.
Casnocha, who is in his mid-20s, has been starting businesses since he was a child, and he founded a government software company called Comcate. In 2007, BusinessWeek named him to its list of "America's best young entrepreneurs."
He took time last week to answer a few questions about his Lexington appearance.
Question: What will be the focus of your speech before the Lexington Venture Club?
Answer: "The mind-set and skill set of entrepreneurship, both for entrepreneurs and people who want to live more adaptive lives, regardless of industry."
Q: What do you see as the biggest obstacles and biggest sources of support for aspiring entrepreneurs?
A: "People are the biggest sources of support. Brainpower, emotional support, etc. It's all about the network of people you surround yourself with."
Q: Who are the best types of people with whom entrepreneurs can surround themselves?
A: "Folks with relevant domain expertise and folks with personal knowledge of you. They're probably not the same people."
Q: In your book The Start-Up of You (written with Reid Hoffman), there is a discussion of being in "permanent beta." Can you tell us more about what you mean by that concept?
A: "'Permanent beta' is an approach to life that embraces the fact that you have bugs, that there are opportunities to improve yourself and improve the world around you. It's a way of living that accepts the fact that you are in perpetual 'beta' and therefore need to always be investing in yourself."
