Funeral for slain Marion deputy set for Saturday

Deputy Anthony Rakes was killed.

The funeral for a Marion County sheriff's deputy who was shot to death early Wednesday will be held Saturday.

The service for Carl Anthony Rakes, 31, of Bradfordsville will be at 1 p.m. at the Marion County High School gymnasium, with burial to follow at the Old Liberty Cemetery, according to Bosley Funeral Home.

Visitation for Rakes will be after 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, at 246 South Proctor Knott Avenue. There also will be visitation starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the school.

Rakes was shot after stopping to check on a motorist early Wednesday, according to Kentucky State Police.

Rakes, was taken to Spring View Hospital in Lebanon after he was shot about 2 a.m., but he died during surgery, police said. Preliminary autopsy results showed that Rakes died from two gunshot wounds to the abdomen and upper torso.

State police later arrested the suspect, Dewayne Shipp, 49, of Breckinridge County, after stopping him in Campbellsville. Shipp has been charged with murder.
