Lexington's finance commissioner named state budget director

Gov. Steve Beshear on Monday named Jane Driskell as his new state budget director, plucking her from the senior staff of Lexington Mayor Jim Gray.

"It's an honor and a privilege for me to join the Beshear administration at such a critical time for Kentucky as we continue to recover from the recession," Driskell said in a prepared statement.

Beshear said Driskell will begin in January as the successor to Mary Lassiter, who has been state budget director and secretary of the governor's cabinet since 2009. Lassiter now can devote her full attention to the latter job, Beshear said.

Driskell is currently Lexington's finance commissioner. But she began her career in state government in the 1980s as a policy and budget analyst in the governor's office. She later held a variety of executive posts in Lexington and Louisville city government.
