The YMCA of Central Kentucky has named David Martorano as its new president and CEO.

Martorano, vice president of operations for the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, will assume his new role Jan. 2, organization officials said.

During his eight-year tenure in Cincinnati, Martorano was responsible for a new business-development project leading to the opening of a Y on the campus of Fifth Third Bank.

"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to lead an organization that makes such a meaningful impact on so many lives," Martorano said in a statement. "I was excited and impressed by the work of the YMCA in Central Kentucky and to see how the Y strengthens the foundation of our community."

Before moving to Cincinnati, he worked with two other large associations: the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee and the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit.

"While there were many outstanding candidates, we feel confident that David has the right skill set to lead us to the next level of success," said Christie Hockensmith, chairwoman of the Y's metropolitan board of directors.

Martorano and his wife, Viki, have four children.

The YMCA of Central Kentucky has 27,000 members and serves 63,000 Kentuckians annually through membership and programs.
