A Knott County man was killed Monday in a two-vehicle collision, Kentucky State Police said in a news release.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle driven by Nero Patton, 89, of Mousie crossed into the opposite lane while driving on Ky. 550 and collided with a vehicle driven by James Smith, state police said.
Patton was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from his pickup truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene in the Lackey community.
Smith was flown to a hospital in Huntington, W.Va., where he was listed in fair condition, according to the news release.
The wreck happened at 4:20 p.m. Monday.
