Career highlights

■ Helped lead Florida State (10-2)to the 2012 ACC title game, where the Seminoles will play Georgia Tech on Saturday.

■ Stoops' Florida State unit is No. 2 in the nation defensively this season, allowing 249.4 yards per game. The Seminoles have allowed 15.1 points per game.

■ The Seminoles ranked No. 108 in total defense before Stoops' arrival. In his first season, 2010, FSU ranked 42nd. Last season Florida State moved up to No. 4.

■ Before going to Florida State, Stoops was defensive coordinator for his older brother Mike at Arizona.

■ Stoops' defense at Arizona ranked 25th nationally in 2009.

■ As secondary coach at Miami, Fla., Stoops' units led the nation in pass defense in 2002 and 2003. The 2001 Hurricanes, who won the national championship, led the nation in pass efficiency defense, scoring defense and turnover margin.

■ Stoops is credited with recruiting and developing several defensive backs who have gone on to NFL careers, including Antoine Cason, Michael Johnson, Philip Buchanon, Kelly Jennings, Brandon Merriweather, Ed Reed, Antrel Rolle, Mike Rumph, Sean Taylor and Brian Lee.

■ Like his brothers, Stoops played collegiately in the secondary at Iowa for Hall of Fame coach Hayden Fry.

■ As a player and a coach, he has taken part in 12 bowls and has helped qualify Florida State for another in 2012.
