Lex-Care: Woman needs money for car repairs

November 28, 2012

Rhonda Barnett, a case manager at the University of Kentucky Targeted Assessment Program, submitted the case featured this week.

Her client is a divorced woman who needs $745 to pay for repairs to her car. The woman has a degree in childhood development and education and works full-time at UK.

In January 2011, she underwent major surgery. Beforehand she made all the necessary financial arrangements to pay her monthly bills during the time she anticipated being unable to work.

While she was recovering, medical complications developed that required several additional surgeries, which delayed her return to work. The plan that paid her bills has expired and she fell behind on her payments. She was finally released by her doctor, has returned to work and has managed to pay all of her past-due bills.

Her car now needs new tires and brakes and she needs assistance to pay that bill. Once that is taken care of, she will continue working and hopes to obtain her master's degree.
