Woodford County note: Library offers holiday activities

The Woodford County Library has several events scheduled this holiday season.

Authors from the Kentucky Monthly anthology Kentucky's 12 Days of Christmas will be at the Main Library at 6 p.m. Monday to read their work and talk about the craft of writing. This event is for adults. Authors will be available for book signings, and copies of the book will be available for purchase. Call (859) 873-5191 to sign up for this free program.

The library's holiday open house will be 6-8 p.m. Dec. 7 and feature Santa and Biscuit the puppy at the Main Library branch. Children can get their pictures made with Santa and Biscuit and enjoy stories, crafts, snacks and music from Lexington Children's Theatre Starlight Singers. This event is free and no sign-up is required.

The Life Adventure Center's "Reindeer Experience" with hot drinks and cookies will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 15 at the library's Midway Branch. Meet the Center's resident reindeer, Snowshoe and Avalanche, and learn cool facts about reindeer life. Holiday music will be provided by the Midway Community Children's Choir. This event is free and no sign-up is required.

Quilt show part of Midway merchants' celebration

The city Merchants Association is hosting "Homeplace Day" from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday . Proceeds will benefit The Homeplace at Midway. Homeplace Day events include a quilt show at 128 East Main Street in downtown Midway. Admission is $10 and includes the chance to win an Ohio Rose Quilt. More than 100 quilts will be on display, and quilt historian Judy Rector will be on hand to chat about quilts from 11 a.m.-noon and 2-3 p.m.

A luncheon and quilt talk will be at 815 Prime restaurant from noon-1:30 p.m. The cost for the luncheon is $25. Reservations are required by calling (859) 846-4688.

A pre-show dinner will be at 5 and 7 p.m. Thursday at Heirloom Restaurant. Cost for the dinner is $50. Reservations are required by calling (859) 846-5565.

Christmas play opens Friday at Woodford Theatre

The Woodford Theatre will present The Christmas Foundling at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Dec. 7, 8, 14 and 15, and at 2 p.m. Sunday and Dec. 9 and 16 at Woodford Theatre, inside Falling Springs Arts and Recreation Center, 275 Beasley Drive in Versailles.

The play, inspired by the short stories of Bret Harte is a heartwarming holiday tale, with the love of a child at its center. Cost is $19 for adults and $12 for students. For information, visit Woodfordtheatre.com/ or call (859) 873-0648.

Also, auditions for Woodford Theatre's production of Driving Miss Daisy will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday and from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Falling Springs Recreational Center. Script copies are available for checkout at the box office window from 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday for a $10 deposit. Roles available: two men for the roles of Hoke Coleburn and Boolie Werthan, character ages 60 to 85 and 40 to 65 and one woman for the role of Daisy Werthan, between the ages of 72 and 97.
