Winners named for Bluegrass Sports Awards

The Bluegrass Sports Commission announced Friday the winners of the 2013 Bluegrass Sports Awards.

The Tom Hammond Award will go to longtime TV and radio broadcaster Dick Enberg, while the Tom Hammond Kentucky Sports Media Award will go to Larry Vaught of the Danville Advocate-Messenger.

Ted Bassett, former President and Chairman of the Board of Keeneland, will receive the Jim Host Business Award. Louis Stout, the late former commissioner of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, will receive The Jim Host Youth Sports Award.

The awards will be presented at the second annual Alltech Bluegrass Sports Awards banquet Jan. 31, 2013, at the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort and Spa.

For the second straight year, the Lexington Herald-Leader will unveil the winner of the Kentucky Sportsman of the Year award (in this case, for 2012) at the banquet. The Sportsman of the Year, given annually since 1981, is voted on by sports media statewide. The 2011 winner was ex-Morehead State basketball star Kenneth Faried.
