Deborah Borrowdale-Cox, education director at the University of Kentucky Art Museum, has been named the 2012 Kentucky Art and Museum Educator of the Year by the Kentucky Art Education Association. She previously received this honor in 2010. Borrowdale-Cox has worked for the museum since 1998, creating and providing educational programs for students and adults across the state.

Dr. Robert P. Granacher and his wife Linda Granacher were recognized for significant "love in action" through the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, when they were honored as top philanthropists at the local National Philanthropy Day celebration, organized by the Bluegrass Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Dr. Granacher, a forensic psychiatrist, has been serving as an expert medical witness since 1977. He has been a practicing physician at Saint Joseph for 34 years.

He has operated a private practice, Lexington Forensic Neuropsychiatry, since 1978, which performs psychiatric and neuropsychiatric evaluations in legal cases.

In addition to his practice, Dr. Granacher teaches national courses and at the training academy for the Lexington Division of Police.

Lexington Hospital for Cats has been named a Gold Level Cat Friendly Practice by the American Association of Feline Practitioners. The cat-only veterinary hospital, located on Southland Drive, is one of only 49 Gold Level Cat Friendly Practices in North America, and the only one in Kentucky. For more information, visit

Valvoline Instant Oil Change, the nation's second largest quick-lube chain, has received an American Society for Training & Development 2012 BEST Award and a Brandon Hall Gold Award for Excellence in Talent Management.

Valvoline Instant Oil Change was among 30 organizations from Bahrain, Canada, India and the United States to receive a 2012 ASTD BEST Award, which is the training industry's most coveted recognition.

Valvoline Instant Oil Change competed against 84 organizations in 13 countries for the 2012 BEST Awards, now in its 10th year.

The company was also recognized by the Brandon Hall Group for excellence in talent management. Valvoline Instant Oil Change's bench planning process received the Brandon Hall Gold Award for excellence in Succession and Career Management.

■ ConventionSouth, a resource for planning events in the South, has presented Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa with a 2012 Readers' Choice Award.

Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa is among 100 convention and visitor bureaus, meeting facilities and hotels located across the South to receive this year's Readers' Choice Award. Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa will be featured as an award recipient in the December 2012 Awards Issue of ConventionSouth magazine.

■ The Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities, the trade association representing long-term care facilities throughout the Commonwealth, held its annual meeting Nov. 13-15 at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville.

The top honor of Facility of the Year went to The Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Corbin. Susan Arnold, administrator at Wolfe County Health and Rehabilitation Center, was honored as the state's top administrator. Locally, Conjuna Collier, administrator at Tanbark Healthcare, was named the Northern Bluegrass District winner.
