Kentucky women set to break attendance record

Published: December 5, 2012

Kentucky's women's basketball game against DePaul hasn't even tipped off yet, but it's set to break the school record for largest crowd.

UK spokeswoman Susan Lax said 16,000 tickets have been sold for Friday night's game against the Blue Demons in Rupp Arena.

The Cats' single-game record, 14,508, was set last season when UK played Duke in Rupp Arena.

Friday night's game is a part of the UK December "dollar days" promotion, which means tickets are $1 if bought in advance via Ticket-Master. Discounts are not available if tickets are bought on game day, Lax said.

Also, men's basketball coach John Calipari appears to be getting into the holiday spirit early and will give away tickets through the UK Ticket Office between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

Here's what Calipari posted Wednesday on Twitter: "I talked @UKCoachMitchell into giving me some tickets for my Facebook friends and Twitter followers to the women's game on Friday at Rupp. ... Just tell them Coach Cal sent you."
