Kentucky drew closer to completing its football staff Tuesday with the announcement that former All-Southeastern Conference defensive tackle Jimmy Brumbaugh will coach the defensive line.

Brumbaugh played for Auburn in the 1990s and was a member of LSU's coaching staff during its 2007 national title run.

"I think Jimmy will do a tremendous job in player development," new UK head coach Mark Stoops said in a release.

"Jimmy comes from the heritage of the legendary Pete Jenkins. Jenkins coached defensive line play for decades in the SEC, other colleges and in the National Football League. When I talked with Jimmy, he blew me away with his organization and plan of how he teaches and develops the defensive line."

Most recently Brumbaugh was a defensive line coach and strength and conditioning coordinator at East Mississippi Community College.

Prior to that, he was a defensive line coach at Louisiana Tech and Syracuse.

While at Syracuse, he helped guide the Orange to an 8-5 record and a 2010 bowl win.

In the news release, the Keystone Heights, Fla., native said watching Stoops' Florida State defense from afar has him excited about the future at Kentucky.

"I'm glad to be part of the Big Blue Nation," Brumbaugh said. "When you think of the tradition of the SEC, and having played at Kentucky (during the 1995 season), I'm glad to be here and have the opportunity to be in this one-of-a-kind league."

As a player at Auburn, Brumbaugh started 44 of his 48 career games, gathering 291 tackles and 15 sacks as a nose tackle and defensive tackle.

Brumbaugh graduated from Auburn with a degree in health and human performance. He is married to the former Kelly Jones. They have two sons, Legend and Nash.
