Lex-Care: Parents of disabled child need assistance

Published: December 19, 2012

Janice Purdy, a social worker at the Hospice Palliative Care Program, is working with the parents of a disabled 8-month-old child. They need $700 to pay their rent.

Their baby was born with several disabilities that require around-the-clock care. Unfortunately, the child is not expected to live much longer.

The child's mother, who is a certified nursing assistant, is unable to work, and her husband, who works in construction, has seen a reduction in working hours. The long-range plan is for an increase in the husband's working hours and for the wife to continue caring for the child.
