Lamonica Hill, 41, was arrested by fire investigators Monday, October 15, 2012. She is charged with arson.

A Fayette County grand jury indicted a Lexington woman on charges that she set a fire in her apartment and tried to kill her son.

Lamonica Hill, 42, is charged with first-degree arson and attempted murder.

On Sept. 13, Hill "attempted to cause the death of her son by strangling him and/or giving him a lethal dose of medication," the indictment said.

She is also accused of setting a fire in his room at their Lima Drive apartment. Initially, Hill told firefighters she started the fire while sleepwalking and dreaming about grilling, investigators have said.

However, Lexington police Capt. Carrie Bowling testified in October that Hill set the fire intentionally. Evidence suggested that Hill was upset because she recently had broken up with her boyfriend and "couldn't go on," Bowling said.

Hill is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 27.
