Dozens of crashes were reported Friday morning in Lexington as snow and low temperatures made roads slick.

The number of non-injury collisions fluctuated, with new ones occurring as others were cleared, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center. At 8:05 a.m., there were 16; at 8:55 a.m., there were 18.

Lt. Raymond Roller of the Lexington Police said there were 69 non-injury and 5 injury wrecks reported between 6 and 10 a.m.

"They are all over town," he said.

Many of the crashes were attributed to the weather. Meteorologist Chris Bailey said snow squalls will continue Friday before decreasing as the storm moves west to east. Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph are possible. Read more on Bailey's weather blog.

"At this point, if you don't have to go out," Roller said, don't. "It would be preferable if they can delay their travel until the roads improve."

So far, he said, police have been able to keep up with the wrecks.

Meanwhile, Interstate 75 southbound in Scott County was the scene of a multi-vehicle crash that reduced the road to one lane for a couple of hours, the state transportation website said. The accident occurred between mile markers 134 and 140.
