Former University of Kentucky and Mason County High School standout Darius Miller is headed to the NBA's Development League for more seasoning, the New Orleans Hornets announced Monday morning.

Miller will play for the Iowa Energy, based in Des Moines.

Miller, a second-round draft pick by the Hornets in 2012, has appeared in 23 games this season for New Orleans (7-23). The forward is averaging 2.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 13.6 minutes per game.

Miller was inactive for Saturday night's game against the Charlotte Bobcats because of the return of shooting guard Eric Gordon.

Miller played a career-high 27 minutes in a Dec. 7 loss to Memphis, in which he had four points and three assists. He had season bests of seven points and eight rebounds in a loss at Denver on Nov. 25.

Miller joins fellow 2012 second-round draft pick Quincy Miller in Iowa. The former Baylor star was assigned to the team by the Denver Nuggets.

Darius Miller gives the Energy three players with ties to Kentucky. Former Pikeville College guard Vance Cooksey and ex-Louisville forward Terrence Jennings are also on the Iowa roster.
