A Knox County couple are charged with murder in the Dec. 27 shooting, Kentucky State Police said Monday.
Angela Jaynes, 39, and her husband, Jessie Jaynes, 45, were arrested Sunday night and charged in the death of James W. Cox, 35, state police said in a news release.
Cox was shot at the Jaynes' home in Walker.
Trooper Shane Jacobs, public affairs officer of the state post in Harlan, said Monday that Angela Jaynes had a relationship with Cox.
"Based on the statements we've got, we feel that some sort of relationship had been taking place," Jacobs said.
"Both Jesse and Angela were involved in the shooting," Jacobs said. "He was shot twice."
The Jayneses initially told police that they found Cox on their property when they arrived home Dec. 27. Jessie Jaynes and Cox then got into an altercation during which Cox was shot, police said.
Jacobs said Monday that "it appears that he (Cox) was never inside the residence. The altercation took place outside the residence."
The Jayneses will be arraigned Thursday in Knox District Court. They were being held Monday in the Knox County Detention Center on $200,000 bond each.
