Jessamine County Notes: Black joins city commission

Newly elected Nicholasville City Commission member Betty Black is joining re-elected members Andy Williams, Pete Sutherland and Doug Blackford in serving two-year terms that begin in 2013.

Nicholasville commissioners are citywide representatives who make laws, ensure that they are carried out and perform administrative functions.

Incumbent Mayor Russell Meyer is a fully participating member of the commission and can vote on all matters.

Commission meetings are at 5 p.m. on the first, second and fourth Mondays of each month at City Hall, 517 Main Street. The public is invited to attend all City Commission meetings.

Anyone who would like to speak during a meeting is requested, but not required, to contact the mayor's office in advance.

Camp Nelson group will discuss schedule for year

The Camp Nelson Education and Preservation Association will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the Media Room of the Interpretive Center. Members and visitors are invited to attend. The schedule of activities for the new year will be discussed, including Education Days in May and Civil War Days in September. Camp Nelson Civil War Heritage Park is at 6614 Danville Road, along U.S. 27 south of Nicholasville. For more information, call (859) 881-5716.
