A Whitley County man has died at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital from injuries he suffered during an assault at his residence Dec. 15.

Jimmie D. Peace, 55, of Corbin, was pronounced dead at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Fayette County coroner's office said.

Peace died of complications from multiple blunt force trauma, the coroner's office said in a release Thursday.

According to authorities, Peace was injured Dec. 15 when an acquaintance assaulted him at his Corbin residence.

Peace sought treatment in the emergency room at Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, and he was released after being treated, the coroner's office said. However, he then developed complications.

According to the coroner's office, Peace was treated at the UK hospital's trauma intensive care unit until care was withdrawn on Wednesday. He died shortly afterward.

The Whitley County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
