A 78-year-old Boyle County man has died from stab wounds he suffered in October, allegedly at the hands of his grandson, officials said Tuesday.

Harold Long died Friday at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, according to staff members at the Fayette County coroner's office.

On Oct. 5, Charles Vanhook, 37, was charged with first-degree assault and kidnapping, after Long suffered several stab wounds to the neck.

Danville Assistant Police Chief Thomas Bustle said charges against Vanhook had not been upgraded by Tuesday morning.

Vanhook remained in the Boyle County jail Tuesday under a $40,000 bond.
