Murder charges in death of Salyersville man

Published: January 8, 2013

A Salyersville man was found dead outside his home on Monday afternoon, and a man inside the home was arrested and charged with his murder.

Donnie Allen, 49, was found dead outside his home on Route 40 at about 4 p.m., said Magoffin County Deputy Coroner Brian Parker. He had been shot once in the chest, Parker said.

Parker said a man inside the home, whom he declined to name, was arrested and charged with murder.

Daniel Hackworth was being held at Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on a murder charge after being booked into custody on Monday night. His bond was set at $500,000 cash.

Parker said the two men had gotten into an argument.

After the shooting, Parker said the shooter, who was visiting Allen, went inside the home for two to three hours and was still there when police arrived. He had called his wife, who called 911.

Parker said the two men had known each other for a few years.
