Dining venues, theater troupe go on January killing spree

After the holidays, activities tend to slow down. It's a good time to take in a relaxing dinner and a show. Bluegrass Mystery Theatre will present Manifest Murder at three locations this month.

■ On Friday, the show begins at 7:30 p.m. at Equus Run Vineyards, 1280 Moores Mill Road, Midway. Tickets are $48, which includes a three-course meal. Wine tastings, $3, begin at 6:15 p.m. Call (859) 846-9463.

■ Jan. 26 at My Old Kentucky Dinner Train in Bardstown. The cost is $99.95 and includes a four-course meal, 2½-hour train ride and the show. The train leaves at 5 p.m. Call (866) 801-3463 for tickets.

Special events

■ The Kentucky Distillers' Association will offer an exclusive sampling of bourbon brands at the Bluegrass Ball on Jan. 19 in Washington, D.C. The pre-inauguration gala is hosted by the Kentucky Society in Washington.

Seven Kentucky distillers will present their premium single-barrel and small-batch bourbons: Bulleit, Four Roses, Heaven Hill, Jim Beam, Maker's Mark, Wild Turkey and Woodford Reserve.

The Bluegrass Ball also will be at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington. Tickets, $250, are available at Kentuckysociety.org.

The ball's Kentucky-inspired menu will be created by Edward Lee, who is chef/owner of 610 Magnolia restaurant in Louisville and has appeared on Iron Chef America and Top Chef.

The ball's emcee is former Kentucky first lady Phyllis George. The Kentucky Society is one of the only state societies in the capital to host a regular inaugural ball, the group says.

■ Anthony Lamas, chef/owner at Seviche in Louisville, will be guest chef at City Grit culinary salon in New York on Jan. 24.

City Grit is a concept created by chef Sarah Simmons to showcase culinary talent from around the country before a New York audience. Lamas' "Southern Spice" dinner will showcase Latin and Southern flavors. Go to Citygritnyc.com.

Lamas was a 2010, 2011 and 2012 semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation's award for best chef in the Southeast, and the restaurant was named by USA Today one of the "10 great places for Latino flavor and flair" in the country. Seviche is at 1538 Bardstown Road. Go to Sevicherestaurant.com.

Hanna's on Lime, 214 South Limestone, will reopen Monday after a holiday break. The lunch special will be pot roast with two sides and a roll for $8.25. Hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Delivery is available. Call (859) 252-6264.
