2 men charged after robbery in bathroom at Nicholasville Kroger

January 16, 2013

Nicholasville police arrested two men in connection with a late-night robbery Tuesday at Kroger on South Main Street.

Joseph Morris, 24, of Nicholasville was charged with second-degree robbery, police said. Steven Whitaker, 22, of Nicholasville was charged with receiving stolen property.

Shortly before 11 p.m., police were called to Kroger, where a man told them that he had been attacked in the bathroom by three men who tried to steal his wallet.

During the attack, the victim, whose name wasn't released, pulled a knife and stabbed one attacker in the lower back. The three men then ran from the store.

The victim left the bathroom and told store employees to call police. A resident followed the robbers and called police to report where the truck had gone. Officers found the truck, which was reported stolen from Lexington, at a nearby apartment complex, where it had been abandoned.

Later, officers found Morris and Whitaker, who had been stabbed. Whitaker was taken to a hospital for treatment. Both were being held in the Jessamine County jail.

More charges are possible, police said.
