Keeneland announced a spring schedule of 16 stakes races worth $3.625 million Thursday, an increase in purses of $200,000 over last year's meet.

The 16-day spring meeting will be held April 5-26, and features racing Wednesdays through Sundays. Fifteen of the spring's 16 stakes are graded, highlighted by five Grade I events.

The meet's richest races are the $500,000 Central Bank Ashland for 3-year-old fillies on April 6 and the $750,000 Toyota Blue Grass, for 3-year-olds on April 13. Both are signature prep races on the road to the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby.

The other three Grade I races this spring are the Madison Stakes on April 11, the Maker's 46 Mile on April 12, and the Jenny Wiley Stakes on April 13.

The Grade III Coolmore Lexington Stakes, another Derby prep race, will be held April 20.

In a change, the $175,000 Commonwealth Stakes, scheduled April 13, will carry Grade III status. The Commonwealth was previously a Grade II stakes.
