A former Fayette County Public Schools employee was sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of sodomy and sexual abuse involving a child under age 12.

Richard Davis Jr., a former teacher's aide at Arlington Elementary School in Lexington, pleaded guilty to the charges last November. Authorities dismissed one count of incest and two counts of sexual abuse in exchange for the guilty plea.

Davis was sentenced Thursday by Fayette District Judge James Ishmael.

Davis originally was arrested in December 2011. The charges involved incidents dating back to early 2010.

Fayette Schools officials have said that none of the incidents occurred on school property.

Ishmael sentenced Davis to 10 years for first-degree sodomy, and five years for first-degree sexual abuse. The sentences run consecutively, for a total of 15 years.
