UK cheerleaders finish 2nd at national competition

The University of Kentucky placed second in a cheerleading championship Sunday, losing its title to the University of Memphis.

UK won the Universal Cheerleaders Association College National championship in Orlando for the 19th time last year. UK has failed to win the national championship just four times since 1995 and has reclaimed the title in the following year each time it lost.

Western Kentucky University placed ninth in the same division. The other 11 finalists in UK's category included Alabama, Ohio State, University of Mississippi and Louisiana State University.

Morehead State University won its 22nd national coed title in its division Saturday, according to the association. Morehead beat the other finalists Delaware, Sacramento, Wichita State and Missouri State. Morehead's all-girl squad placed second.
